North Dakota State Insurance CE Requirements

Through NAIFA's strategic partnership with the online CE provider, RegEd, NAIFA members now have access to a free 4-hour course delivery program that meets the educational mandate of the new NAIC Suitability Regulation for annuities training. This industry-wide "one-stop" platform includes insurer-produced product specific training and state-approved required training for participating companies and states.

RegEd Website

 

Credit Hours:
  • Producer: 24 hours biennially.
Compliance Date:
  • Last day of birth month biennially.

    Newly licensed producers' 24 month period starts on their birth month that follows the date of licensure; they then renew on their birth month that is 24 months after license date.

Training Methods:
  • Classroom or Self-Study.
Course Subject Requirements:
  • Ethics : 3 hours in Ethics.

     

  • Long Term Care : An individual may not sell, solicit or negotiate a long-term care insurance policy that will constitute a Partnership policy unless the individual is licensed as an insurance producer for the accident and health line of authority and has completed a one time 8 hour training course by or before July 1, 2008, and 4 hours of ongoing training every 24 months thereafter. This training may be approved for CE credit.
    The satisfaction of these training requirements in any state is deemed to satisfy the training requirements in North Dakota.

     

  • Flood : A producer who sells flood insurance must complete a one time 3 hour course related to the NFIP, which may be approved for 3 hours of CE credit.

     

  • Annuity Suitability : Producers holding a life line of authority on 8/1/11 and who sell or wish to sell annuity products must complete 4 hours of one-time annuity training by 8/1/12. Producers who obtain a life line of authority on or after 8/1/11 and wish to sell annuity products must complete this training before selling annuity products. Insurers must provide product-specific training. Compliance with another state's training requirements that are substantially similar to this requirement will be deemed in compliance with North Dakota's training requirement.
Course Repetition:
  • Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in each 2 year reporting period.
Excess Credit Hour Carry-Over:
  • Up to 12 hours of course work over the minimum requirement taken in the last 12 months of a reporting period may be credited to the preceding year or the following year. Ethics hours may be carried forward as regular hours but not as Ethics hours.
